White Dorper Stud

History

The Blanco White Dorper Stud was established with the purchase of 230 full blood (South African) ewes and rams on the dispersal of ‘Saxon Downs White Dorper Stud’ in October 2004. Bloodlines represented in the purchase include ‘Kasteel’, ‘Hennie Jacobs’,  ‘Snyman’and ‘P.Cillers’.

Subsequent additional sires were purchased from ‘Kaya’ and ‘Gossamer Downs ’. These originated from South African full blood Jordan & Highveldt Bloodlines.

During 2004/2005 an extensive Embryo Transfer Programme resulted in 1,500 full blood lambs. A similar programme is in progress for the 2006 season.

The Saxon Downs Stud, established by Gordon Palmer in 1998, quickly became a leading White Dorper Stud, with sales throughout Australia and overseas. Mr Palmer travelled regularly to South Africa and annually imported significant numbers of embryos of genetics specifically selected for Australia conditions.
